Lilit
Szokássá vált a szülő nők szobájának falára Lilit ellenes táblákat, védő amuletteket akasztani.
Although even the Torah strictly forbides every kind of witchcraft, sorcery and belief in demons, in folk religion apotropaic objects, which can protect their owner from evil and difficulties, were wide spread. One can mention the curse preventive amuletts as the most common ones, which were used around the time of giving birth to keep Lilith away. Lilith is a legendary demoness, who casues harm to pregnant women and to newly borns, that is why protective tables and amuletts were put onto the walls of the house. This exhibited tablet was published in the Orczy house, probably for those freshly arrived ones, who couldn’t understand anything but Jiddish at that point. The inscriptions on the sides are curses agains Lilith, while the middle field contains the 121th. Psalm.
